Nikki Burke has racing running through her veins. Based at the Cranbourne Training Centre in Victoria, Nikki has been involved with racing since she was a young child going through school. While other kids were heading on school camps or having day trips to the city, Nikki was at the local stables mucking out boxes and caring for the horses. On the weekends if she wasn’t doing the same Nikki would be at the races watching her favourite thoroughbreds competing on the track.
Nikki Burke prides herself on being a hands on trainer. With 20+ horses in work Nikki Burke Racing provides an intimate approach to each of their horses, ensuring they get the necessary care and attention to optimise performance while providing a nurturing environment that keeps the horses happy and healthy. Nikki rides each and every one of her horses on the track giving her the edge that most trainers simply do not have the luxury of. Being a part of each individual horses program from the moment they are saddled up each morning to their final feed and exercise of an afternoon, Nikki Burke gets to know her horses extremely well. By having this advantage Nikki can tailor a program for each individual horse that maximises performance and keeps them mentally fresh and happy.
Nikki’s normal routine consists of a 2.20am start, 6 days a week. No day is the same at Nikki Burke Racing and this is what keeps her and the team motivated to provide the best care and attention for their horses. Being with the horses is not just a job for Nikki, it’s a passion, a way of life. After the morning has finished Nikki is home for a few hours to take care of the administration, race programming and owner liaison. However, with just a few hours to complete those tasks it is back to the track for afternoon stable work.
Nikki believes her biggest asset is patience. Nikki Burke Racing never asks too much of the horse and enables them to build their fitness levels up slowly, keeping them happy and feeling well in themselves when they hit the track each day. Then on race days this translates to a horse that presents at the races feeling fresh and ready to perform at their peak.

As many of you will know, 'Psy' damaged a ligament in one of his forelegs as an unraced 2yo when trained by Peter Moody - not once, but twice. It was doubtful he would ever make it to the track.
From that time on (back in 2013), he has been under the expert care of Nikki Burke who has looked after him perfectly and got him to the races 25 times. He finishes his career having won four races and placing second or third six other times. He earned prize money of $117,140.
Nikki and I are now planning Psy's retirement knowing he will always hold a special place in our hearts and that he will live out the rest of his days healthy and content.
Thanks go to Nikki, Poppy, Matthew, Peter, Julie and everyone that helped us along the way.
Could not be happier with our new trainer Nikki Burke. Pink Perfection is super fit and healthy and most importantly happy and did an amazing job first up tonight. She's got her heart back!
